Montana's Supreme Court chief justice is advocating a new ballot measure that would use alcohol tax money for prevention and treatment efforts.
Mike McGrath made the suggestion during a special legislatively mandated DUI panel meeting in Helena. The Newschannel is covering the hearings and will bring you the latest on the News at 5, 6 and 10.
McGrath used to the the state's attorney general. He's one of the presenters at the DUI panel. Lawmakers are mulling changes to the state's drunk driving laws.
McGrath says the ballot measure would fund treatment courts and other drug and alcohol and treatment and prevention programs with taxes on alcohol sales. McGrath says that repeat drunken drivers are a problem that afflicts every community in the state.
