H1N1 Numbers Around Montana

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention estimates around 22 million people have had the H1N1 virus across the country.  That translates about 70,000 Montanans.

The number of cases continues to rise though, and no one knows just how high it will get.

Another problem for health officials is the fact that they don't know who has and hasn't had the virus.  It's estimated over half of the Influenza like illnesses reported are not H1N1.

Greg Oliver, with the Missoula City County Health Department says "That's something that we know a lot of people in Missoula think they've had H1N1, and they're thinking oh you know I don't really need to take advantage of that flu shot since I've had it."

Typically with flu viruses, about 20% of the population gets sick.  And health workers don't know what to expect when the regular flu season hits.
