Three Forks woman to get peace award

The Institute for Peace Studies at Rocky Mountain College says Marietta Jaeger Lane of Three Forks will receive this year's Jeannette Rankin Peace Award for her work against the death penalty.
The award is given each year to a Montanan or person with Montana ties for his or her work toward peace on local and global
levels.
Cindy Kunz is the institute's administrator. She said yesterday (Monday) that board members were impressed by both Lane's work on the death penalty and her work with the Michigan Coalition for Human Rights.
Lane's 7-year-old daughter was kidnapped, molested and killed in 1973. Lane initially said if given the opportunity, she would have killed the murderer, but she changed her mind and for the last 36 years has been a vocal opponent of the death penalty.
David Meirhoffer admitted to killing Susie Jaeger and three others in Gallatin County, but he hanged himself in jail before he
stood trial.
This year's peace award will be presented in Billings on Nov. 20.
