Commissioners Likely Won't Raise Wolf Quota

State officials say its unlikely they'll allow more wolves to be killed during this hunting season.  The Montana Wildlife Commissioners are responding to concerns about a large number of wolves being killed near Yellowstone National Park.  Last week commissioners suspended the hunt after 9 of the 12 wolves were killed.  Commissioners say they might re-open that area, or allow hunters to kill three wolves in a different area.  A Ravalli County group wants the state to use money from wolf tag sales to study wolves and other predators.  Ravalli County Fish and Wildlife wants half of the money earmarked for research.  The study would focus on the effects that wolves have on elk, deer and bighorn sheep.  Group members say scientific studies could people form educated opinions about wolf hunting.       more than 11,000 hunters bought tags in Montana.  That raised over 200,000 dollars.
