A man with strong ties to the Missoula Civic Symphony turned 100 years old on Saturday. Mayor John Engen issued a proclamation stating that October 3rd was Gerald Henderson Doty Day. A couple hundred people showed up at an event to honor the musician who's taught thousands of violin and viola students. In addition to continuing to teach music, he is also an avid gardener.
Dr. Doty attributes his path to one hundred years old to a few simple habits. "Clean living for one thing. I've never smoked. I don't drink too much... a little."
His family spans five generations with five grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren.
