Montana's fire season is coming to a close, but officials say we aren't out of the woods yet.
It has been a slow fire season in Flathead County. But, the county's fire warden, Lincoln Chute, says there have been 5 or 6 human started fires over the last week. This is video from the Rogers Lake Fire. That blaze was started by a camp fire. Chute says they've also fought fires in Whitefish, Corum, and Kila in the past few days. Chute says grass and trees are dry in the county. THey can create a lot of fuel for fires.
He tells us, he thinks we haven't seen the last fire of the season yet.
Chute says, "I think some people have le their guard down a little. September, the last 5 to 10 years... We've got season ending rain events in the beginning of September and this year we just haven't got that and its extremely dry out there."
Open burning is not permitted until October first.
