If you receive KECI Channel 13 over the air and have questions about the digital transition, please try rescanning your converter box or digital ready TV.  If you receive our signal via cable or satellite, you should not need to make any adjustments.  If you have further questions, please call 1-888-CALL-FCC for assistance.

If you are hearing impaired, go to www.dtv.c-s-d.org/, or call 1-877-DTV-4YOU (voice) or 1-877-TTY-4CSD (TTY) for more details about the digital transition.

By law, all American television stations are switching from analog to new digital broadcasts on or before June 12, 2009.  Digital television is more efficient technology that will provide clearer pictures, better sound, and will allow for a variety of other new TV services.

But if you are one of millions of consumers who receive free TV through rooftop antennas or rabbit ears, you will need to upgrade your TV set to continue receiving free television.  In fact, one out of every three households will be affected by the switch.

Any television sets that do not have a built-in digital tuner, or are not connected to a cable or satellite service, will need a digital converter box to continue receiving free, broadcast television after the transition occurs.

On February 4th, Congress extended the deadline for the switch to digital TV until June 12, 2009.

  • The legislation passed by Congress provides more time for Americans to prepare for the digital TV transition and will give the government more time to fix the converter box coupon program.
  • Giving access to coupons is critical, because converter boxes are the most economical way for over-the-air households to upgrade to digital.
  • America’s broadcasters have spent the past decade preparing for this historic transition, and we’re ready to make a successful switch.
  • Educating viewers about the switch is our top priority, and we will continue pursuing robust outreach efforts to guide them through the transition smoothly.
  • We will continue to coordinate analog shut-off tests to the extent possible, since these tests have proven to be extremely effective in helping consumers get ready for the transition.
  • Viewers don’t need to wait until the date of the switch to upgrade to DTV. The vast majority of stations are already broadcasting in digital – including ours – and free DTV is available in every market in the country.
  • Our number one goal is to make sure our viewers are prepared for the DTV transition, and we’ll continue to do everything we can to make that happen.

The new legislation provides flexibility for local stations in adjusting to the new date. So while Congress is giving stations more time to make the switch to all digital broadcasting, our station may be making the switch early, and we will do everything possible ensure our viewers are ready.

  • We appreciate Congress’ and the FCC’s efforts to maintain flexibility for stations in adjusting to the new transition date in this bill.
  • We wanted to make you aware that because of the near saturation of consumer awareness of the February 17 date and the technical issues we face, we may switch to all digital broadcasting early and exercise the flexibility Congress so graciously provided. Watch this announcement for update information as it becomes available.
