Home Sales

A report out today by the National Association of Realtors says sales rose 10.1 percent in the month of October; far out-pacing expectations.  The Association says home resales surged to the highest level in  two and a half years.

Here in Montana, realtors tell us figures are slowing climbing, but that dramatic dips across the nation did not happen here as much because banks in Montana have been more conservative.

Realtors expect home sales across the US and in Montana to keep going up because people are taking advantage of two different tax credits.

Judi Rivers\Prudential Missoula Properties:  "They have extended the $8,000 first-time homebuyers tax credit, so, I think that is going to help.  I also know that if you are selling your home and you have lived in it five years, and you sell it to upgrade to a different house, there is a  65 hundred dollar tax credit."

Realtor associations report the median home price in Missoula County as about $212,000, close to $272,000 in the Flathead Valley, and almost $260 for Gallatin County.
